Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Pyra & Mythra Presentation Premieres March 4

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Pyra Mythra

Nintendo have announced Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai will host a presentation on DLC characters Pyra and Mythra.

The presentation (as stated in the tweet and image above) will broadcast March 4th at 6:00 a.m. PT (9:00 a.m. ET). The presentation will include more information on how the characters play, and a release date for the DLC characters.

As previously reported, Pyra is the Aegis in Xenoblade Chronicles 2; a legendary Blade. Blades are living weapons who are joined to a person, granting them their weapon and powers in battle. For those familiar with the plot of Xenoblade Chronicles 2; Pyra is also able to turn into another being called Mythra. While Pyra uses fire based attacks, Mythra uses light-based ones.

The move is surprising, as Rex had previously been announced as a Mii Fighter costume. Many fans feel that once a character appears as a Mii Fighter costume, it guarantees they will not be a playable character. While Rex and Pyra are intertwined in Xenoblade Chronicles 2; Rex is technically not in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

However, eagle-eyed fans noticed Pyra and Mythra are censored. The image of Mythra as one of the game’s many “Spirits” was previously censored by adding tights to her bare legs. Her cleavage was also covered up. This would later become available as her alternate costume in Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country. However, Pyra’s Spirit image was not censored.

It seems that this has happened once again, but this time Pyra has also been censored. The small bit of leg between Pyra’s shorts and thigh-high boots has been covered by tights- which extend slightly up to the straps on her hips. Mythra’s full leg black tights also return.

It should be noted the end of the announcement trailer in the Nintendo Direct presentation itself included a disclaimer that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was a Teen rated game.

When details on DLC character Terry Bogard were discussed, so were the characters that would appear in the background of his stage. While 20 characters appear, Sakurai mentioned that Mai Shiranui would not be one of them. At the time he stated Super Smash Bros. Ultimate “is for good boys and girls of many different ages.”

It is likely both Pyra and Mythra were censored as their bare legs and cleavage would raise the game’s Everyone 10+age rating after its launch, along with other regions.

Pyra and Mythra launch March 2021, and will also be part of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 along side Min Min from ARMS, Steve from Minecraft, and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now for Nintendo Switch. In case you missed it, you can find our thorough review for the game here (we highly recommend it!)
