Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Character Sephiroth Announced

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Sephiroth

During the Game Awards, Nintendo revealed Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII would be the next DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

For those unfamiliar, Sephiroth is the main antagonist if Final Fantasy VII, and one of the strongest members of SOLDIER- a super-soldier program enhancing the subject’s physical capabilities through Mako.

When Sephiroth learned of his origins however, he was driven mad. He became hellbent on calling down Meteor, creating enough damage to the planet to tear-open the lifestream and become a god.

Sephiroth utilizes a combination of fast strikes and magic to keep foes on their toes, and can further take on a one-winged angel form to amplify the speed and power of his strikes. The exact mechanics of Sephiroth’s playstyle will likely be revealed later, along with new Mii Fighter costumes.

You can find the announcement trailer below.

There is already an existing Final Fantasy VII stage thanks to Cloud, however the stage’s music selection was noticeably anemic compared to other stages. It is likely Sephiroth will bring more Final Fantasy VII music, as long with a new stage based on the lifestream.

Sephiroth launches December 2020, and will also be part of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 along side Min Min.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now for Nintendo Switch. In case you missed it, you can find our thorough review for the game here (we highly recommend it!)
