A new report suggests a Streets of Rage movie is coming via the creator behind the John Wick films.
The new report (via Deadline) says the Streets of Rage movie is coming from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie producer dj2 Entertainment and Escape Artists (Equalizer franchise), with John Wick creator and writer Derek Kolstad writing the script.
Derek Kolstad also wrote the script for the action movie movie “Nobody”. The movie is said to be produced by the team behind the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, dj2 Entertainment, and Escape Artists who are known for the Equalizer franchise.
The premise behind Streets of Rage is quite simple, yet effective – protagonists Axel, Blaze, and Adam, ex-police vigilantes end up working together to get rid of a Crime Syndicate that has taken control of their city.
Streets of Rage is a gritty ’80s brawler originally released on the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis back in 1991 and was widely successful with two sequels in the ’90s, and a revival Streets of Rage 4 in 2020, which has a mobile port coming out May 2022. Streets of Rage movie is coming
Video game movies tend to get a bad wrap and for good reason too so I was a little bit skeptical when I found out a Streets of Rage movie is coming. That being said upon further inspection this might actually be great.
With the Sonic the Hedgehog movies being massively successful for Sega, it’s no surprise that they would be looking into other franchises to adapt into movies, and with the creator of John Wick writing the script my hopes are high. Perhaps this will somehow tie into the Sonic 2 movie’s producer saying he wants to make a cinematic universe.
