The long-awaited Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie has finally wrapped up filming, director Jeff Fowler confirmed this week.
The returning director posted a photo of himself wearing a “Keep Calm and Jim Carrey On” t-shirt while confirming principal filming has concluded, a nod to returning villain and superstar Jim Carrey.

Eagle-eye Sonic the Hedgehog enthusiasts will immediately spot the film slate, sporting series main characters Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles ‘Tails’ Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, and new villain Shadow the Hedgehog.
Announced just over two years ago, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will actually be predated by a live-action TV series focused entirely on Knuckles, which premieres later next month. It will feature several returning cast, including Idris Elba as Knuckles, with some newcomers.
Details for the plot in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 are scant, though a recently released logo (seen above) for the film is an obvious nod to Sonic Adventure 2. The movies have generally followed lots of tidbits from the games (like any game-to-movie adaption should).
The second film in the series, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, became the highest-grossing video game movie of all time in the USA, though The Super Mario Bros. Movie later crushed it and went on to become the second highest-grossing animated film of all time.
The hotly-anticipated Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie is set to premiere on December 20th, 2024, just in time for Christmas.
