Sega and Paramount Pictures have announced the release date for their next theatrical movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
The new film is slated for a release on December 20, 2024 – so it will be a long time before anyone actually gets to see the ending of this trilogy.
Not much other information was given about the film, likely as with the amount of time before its launch they have not finalized the script and certainly haven’t even begun filming.
It’s no surprise that there is a third live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie. The third installment had already been confirmed before the release of the second film. There has also been talks of a “cinematic universe” for the series, with a live-action television series also on the way.
Fortunately for Sega and Paramount Pictures, it seems they’re betting on the right horse. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 broke US sales records for video game adaptation, beating out the Uncharted film which had also released earlier in the year.
Currently Sonic the Hedgehog 2 stands 4th among video game adaptations in the worldwide box office (via TheNumbers).
