Sega lays off over 100 employees from Company of Heroes studio

Company of Heroes 3

Despite Company of Heroes 3 having just launched earlier this year, Sega announced they’ve laid off 121 employees from its developer, Relic Entertainment.

According to a statement released by Relic Entertainment, the reason for these layoffs are a result of restructuring the organization to “ensure maximum focus is placed on [their] core franchises”.

They also make mention of factors affecting the gaming industry as a whole, where indeed there have been numerous companies seeing major layoffs.

Take-Two, Ubisoft, EA, and even Xbox are among a fair number who have seen announcements of varying amounts of layoffs in the past months. Given their statements, it would seem that Sega is feeling the effects that has taken over the industry of late.

Their most recent title, Company of Heroes 3, has been available since February for PC (via Steam) and their console ports are set to launch at the end of this month.
