Take-Two hit by layoffs, includes Kerbal Space Program publisher Private Division and others

Take-Two, the parent company of major developer Rockstar Games and publisher 2K Games, have gone through a round of layoffs.

These layoffs were first hinted at in their latest financial report (later confirmed by Gamesindustry.biz), and primarily affect publisher Private Division, who are known for their Kerbal Space Program games.

These layoffs are meant to better align with “long-term priorities” and that they should have minimal impact on the development teams.

Last month, Take-Two had announced plans of a “cost-reduction program” meant to save the company roughly $50 million.

This program would focus on “personnel, processes, infrastructure, and other areas, and will primarily focus on corporate and publishing functions”.

While they don’t expect to make broad layoffs like other companies, such as Microsoft or Google. It’s likely this is far from the only wave of layoffs companies under Take-Two will face.

As stated above, they don’t plan on impacting development teams, which hopefully will be the case for big titles set to come up, such as Rockstar’s upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI.
