The irreverent comedy series Seitokai Yakuindomo (Student Council Staff Members) has delayed the premiere of its second movie, due to concerns surrounding the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
According to an official blogpost on the movie’s site, producer King Amusement Creative has decided to delay the film’s original July 10th premiere. King Amusement Creative cites the current concerns about the coronavirus pandemic as the reason for the delay. This comes shortly after Japan formally ended its state of emergency.
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic (also known as COVID-19 officially, or Chinese Flu to others) has affected many worldwide, from businesses to public gatherings and events.
This includes postponements of GDC, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the physical events for EVO 2020 and Tokyo Game Show 2020, and cancellations E3 2020 (including digital events), BlizzCon 2020, the physical event for Gamescom 2020, Comiket 98, and MAGStock 2020.
We also reported No Straight Roads being delayed to Summer 2020, and Assault Lily Bouquet being delayed.
The Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering are mapping the virus’ spread [1, 2]. As of this time of writing, there are over over 3.351 million active cases worldwide. There have been over 388,000 deaths, however over 2.850 million people have made a “total recovery.” There have been over 6.589 million total confirmed cases.
Japan has 1,215 active cases (16,911 active cases), 911 deaths, and 14,785 recoveries.
Seitokai Yakuindomo is a 4-panel (yonkoma) manga by Tozen Ujiie, and has been releasing since 2007. The series received an official anime by studio GoHands in 2010 and 2014. Studio GoHands is also responsible animating for the delayed film.

- Satomi Sato as Aria Shichijo
- Sayuri Yahagi as Suzu Hagimura
Seitokai Yakuindomo takes place at Osai Academy, which recently transitioned from an all-girls school to a coed academy. Takatoshi Tsuda is one of only 28 male students joining the new class. After being recruited by the student council, he finds himself the only guy on the council in order to provide a male perspective for the newly coed school.
As a gag comedy, scenes and plots are resolved quickly, and references to jokes made earlier in the series repeat throughout the show. The gags largely feature on the eccentric personalities of the other student council members, with Takatoshi largely acting as a straight-man to the girls’ antics.
Student council president Shino Amakusa seems to always infer lewd intent behind any interaction between men and women, leading to frequent misunderstandings at Osai Academy.
Aria Shichijo acts worldly about sex, but ends up giving terrible advice to the rest of the girls on the council. Finally Suzu Hagimura is petite and serious, her size making her the constant subject of lolicon jokes throughout the series.
Currently a new date for the second Seitokai Yakuindomo movie has yet to be announced.
