Rumor: Metroid Prime remaster launching in holiday 2022 to celebrate 20th anniversary

A new rumor is making the rounds that Nintendo is finally remastering the original Metroid Prime, with its sequels to follow sometime after as well.

“I can say that I’ve been told pretty definitively that Metroid Prime remastered is going to be one their [Nintendo] big holiday games,” Giant Bomb writer Jeff Grubb said on a livestream.

“In the past this is something I’ve heard is in the works, they have things happening with that game, now I’ve been told their plans to release that game this holiday almost certainly to line up with the 20th anniversary in November.”

This lines up with the original November 18th, 2002 release date when Metroid Prime launches in North America for the GameCube. Numerous rumors of a remaster or remake have bubbled throughout the years, but this is the closest thing to something concrete.

The rumor goes on to claim that while Nintendo is remastering the original Metroid Prime for this holiday, its sequels Echoes and Corruption will merely get touched up with new controls and possibly up-scaled graphics, but not a full remaster like the original.

Nintendo has been actively working on a followup, Metroid Prime 4, which we still know practically nothing about since its 2017 reveal. Since the reveal developent on the sequel has been reportedly restarted multiple times, so perhaps if this remaster launches we’ll finally see its fourth entry.
