Portal 64 fan demake taken down at request of Valve

The fan-made Portal 64 has been taken down, preventing the impressive title from reaching full completion.

Portal 64 was a fan-made “demake” that recreated the classic PC title in the style of a Nintendo 64 game, all the way down to the technical aspects.

The developer of the project, James Lambert, announced that Valve has since requested the project be taken down because “the project depends on Nintendo’s proprietary libraries.”

Whether it was Valve acting on their own or a result of Nintendo making demands has not been clarified.

Nintendo is notorious when it comes to taking down fan projects. While Valve is normally fine with fan projects, they recently issued a DMCA on the TF2S2 project.
