Despite Pokemon Scarlet and Violet having negative reception upon release mostly from the poor state the games were in, it didn’t stop them from selling well.

Now, the games can now put themselves firmly within the franchise’s storied history as they’ve become the best selling games in the franchise in Japan. Both Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have topped over 8.3 million units sold across both titles as reported by Famitsu.

This breaks the long running record set by the original games, Pokemon Red and Green, which launched nearly 30 years ago. While the gaming sphere is much different than it is now, this accomplishment is certainly impressive considering everything surrounding the games.
