It would seem that there is a possibility that PlatinumGames and Microsoft could be seeking to rekindle their business partnership, according to a new rumor.
The new rumor comes from Xbox-insider Extas1s, who has been reliable with leaking Xbox info in the past. Extas1s claims that his source tells him that the Bayonetta 3 developers are seeking funding from Microsoft for their next project, which would be an Xbox Exclusive.
As of right now, this appears to be only rumors with nothing concrete outside their source, and it’s not clear if Microsoft accepted the offer. It would be interesting to see what kind of game could rise from the ashes of Scalebound, the now-cancelled PlatinumGames title that was originally announced for the Xbox One at E3 2014.
If Microsoft were to enter into a deal with the studio, it would definitely need to have some more oversight compared to the Scalebound development, which both PlatinumGames CEO and director Hideki Kamiya admitted was “too ambitious” and not possible with their development team at the time.
We will have to wait and see if these rumors pan out in the future, as we can always enjoy more PlatinumGames action.
