Microsoft Confirms Scalebound is Cancelled

Scalebound is Cancelled

Following initial rumors and delays, Microsoft has confirmed that the PlatinumGames’ developed dragon game Scalebound is cancelled.

“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences.”

While Microsoft has confirmed Scalebound is cancelled, previously, a rumor pointing to the PlatinumGames’ Xbox One and PC action RPG Scalebound experiencing further development woes, and possibly even getting canned.

The rumor (via Kotaku) is citing “several sources” close to the project saying the game is stuck in development hell, and might be cancelled. When they reached out to Microsoft, they said, “We’ll have more to share on Scalebound soon.”

Platinum Games have been developing or co-developing a lot of games recently, with their latest opus being NieR: Automata, a co-developed action RPG with Square Enix.

On the other hand, the game has been experiencing development issues for quite some time, having been announced back at E3 2014. We haven’t gotten an official update from Microsoft in months, and the company’s recent Xbox Wire post doesn’t even mention the game.
