Payday 2 Gets New DLC, Major Changes To Safe, Drill, Lootbox, and Marketplace Systems

Payday 2

Overkill has released the next part of their Silk Road event for Payday 2, and reworked some of the games controversial lootbox systems.

The new DLC consists of the San Martín Bank Heist mission, the Federales Weapon Pack, the Tailor Pack 2, and the Weapon Color Pack 1. These packs can be bought individually, or as part of a bundle.

There has been no confirmation at this time as to when the console versions of the game will receive the new content.

You can find a launch trailer for the new DLC below.

The new content coincides with a major update to the base game. In addition to a variety of balance tweaks, the update completely overhauls the drill, safe, and Marketplace systems that govern the game’s cosmetics and “loot crates.”

In the ongoing controversy surrounding lootboxes, several governmental bodies within nations, and their politicians [1, 2, 3] threatened to take legal action against developers. Back in 2015, the game added microtransactions, much to the scorn of the community.

Due to this, players no longer need drills to open safes, and can no longer buy, sell, or trade drills or safes on the Steam Marketplace. Any Marketplace listings that are currently active can remain, but no new listings can be added.

Anyone with unused drills will get to trade them for safes of the corresponding type. The safe drop tables are also being reworked to accommodate the changes. You can read all the details here.

You can find a rundown on the new DLC (via Steam) below:

The Payday Gang is down in Mexico, preparing to hit a small town bank that has ties to a powerful drug cartel.

A Bank Down South
This is a one-day heist taking place in the small and sleepy Mexican town of San Martín, which is about to receive a rude awakening as the Payday Gang arrives to hit the local bank.

This DLC sees the Mexican police force make its debut appearance in PAYDAY 2, and players will find that the Mexican SWAT officers are every bit as tough as their US counterparts.

The heist is available in both stealth and loud, and has a variety of preplanning options to allow players to customize their approach.

This DLC is also part of the San Martín Bundle.

Payday 2 is available on Windows PC (via Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
