Nintendo confirmed their latest sales – with the Nintendo Switch now having sold over 114.3 million units as of September 30, 2022.
This is good news for the lifetime of the console, but the company also reported a slowing in sales year-over-year in their financial results, for the first six months in the fiscal year ending in 2023.
Nintendo also noted the Switch has seen a decline of 19.2% in unit sales compared to last year. This weakening rate has caused them to drop their forecasted sales from 21 million to 19 million, a drop of 9.5%.
While this might be a trend of the Nintendo Switch sales declining as it reaches the late stages of it cycle, it’s possible a future console is likely to be announced sooner, rather than later. They do maintain that their upcoming launch of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will continue on their sales momentum.
Though their hardware sales have begun to struggle a tiny bit, the software sales for Nintendo have actually increased year-over-year. Nintendo attributes this to the launches of major titles such as Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Splatoon 3. The former of which broke sales records for the long running franchise.
Other interesting bits of information from their results are that digital sales have greatly increased this year for the company. It rose 30.2% year-over-year for the first half of this year, and have also taken a majority of the company’s sales at 51% for the Nintendo Switch. It seems that like Capcom, even Nintendo is seeing more sales through digital rather than physical.
