Microsoft’s new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has been chasing after fan feedback since taking office – and now they’ve launched a new “Xbox Player Voice” portal to get direct feedback from fans.
The new portal was just launched and fans have immediately begun clamoring for Xbox to return to having exclusive games as its top post, “EXCLUSIVES”, demands just that.
“XBOX was built off of great game exclusives, you cannot sell any consoles without a reason to buy the console compared to your competition or even sending your tentpole games over to your competitor. BRING THEM BACK PLEASE!!!”, the post reads.
At the time of writing, the post has a staggering 8,500 upvotes and has over a thousand comments all mostly saying the same thing: Xbox fans want to see Xbox exclusive games again.
“Please Microsoft, stop releasing your big titles on other platforms,” another user said. “Games that have helped to undermine the Xbox all this time, cancel the release of your games on PlayStation, a platform that has always hindered the Xbox in every way. Sony, for example, has always paid for exclusivity and paid studios not to release their games on Xbox. The company is losing in every way with this practice of releasing its exclusives on other platforms.”
Another user said “I do think the platform needs some sort of exclusive content, sending everything you have to the competition negates the need to buy an Xbox, which hurts the brand.”
“Without exclusives there is no reason to own an Xbox console. I’ve never seen a brand so interested in killing itself off,” another user said, alluding to Microsoft’s controversial “This is an Xbox” marketing campaign and their aggressive multiplatform strategy that came with it.
While Sony is reportedly withdrawing from releasing any of their first-party games on PC, Microsoft has always released their games on PC, too, although they originally only released them via the Microsoft Store for PC and its accompanying desktop app.
More recently, Microsoft has also been releasing even their first-party titles on its main competitor, Steam, which some fans think further eroded and reason to support the Xbox ecosystem.
The new Xbox CEO previously made waves with a new memo that confirmed not only are they doubling down on the Xbox brand – they might even reconsider exclusivity for games.
It’s debatable how Xbox could return to only releasing their games on Xbox consoles and PC – they have already dumped several first-party titles onto PlayStation and even Switch, and they have many more set for those platforms in the future, too.
The newly launched Forza Horizon 6 was confirmed for a PlayStation release the day it was revealed, though it will be timed exclusive to Xbox and PC. The long-awaited Fable reboot launches for PlayStation day one alongside Xbox.
Other top-voted posts include a demand for the mythical Xbox Game Pass Family Plan – which Microsoft actually tested in developing countries, though it has yet to make it to the USA or Europe. Other demands from fans include a disc drive for the new Xbox console, a revamp for Xbox achievements, and even a demand for Xbox to start up their beloved backwards compatibility program.
Regardless of what the Xbox team decides to do with their biggest and or first-party releases – it does seem like their listening to fans as they even cut the price of Game Pass.
