Conservative pundit at the Daily Wire Matt Walsh is once again attacking nerd culture. This time, he’s attacking George Lucas’s prequels, particularly Revenge of the Sith.
In a new review for the film on its 20th year anniversary return to theaters, Matt Walsh said Revenge of the Sith is one of the worst films Hollywood has ever produced. The thing he hated the most was the dialogue, and he took to his show to declare, “Revenge of the Sith has the worst dialogue I’ve ever heard in a mainstream Hollywood film.”
Citing the example of Padme’s conversations with Anakin as being especially cringe, Walsh pivoted to criticizing George Lucas for taking his story too seriously.
The line where Anakin says “If you’re not my ally, then you’re my enemy,” to which Obi-Wan responds, “Only a Sith deals in absolutes” has long been criticized by neo-conservatives in America as a “thinly veiled” attack on former President George Bush’s War on Terror. At the time, National Review attacked George Lucas for “wading into politics to scold patriotic Americans.”
In a response article to Walsh’s attacks on Star Wars, a fellow Daily Wire employee accused Walsh of being unfair to the film. Jacob Falach, the employee, recounted a time when Matt Walsh discovered he played a Star Wars game. Falach recalls how Matt Walsh paused and said that he was “repulsed by me completely,” before calling him and anyone else who would play a Star Wars game a “complete and utter disgrace.”
Matt Walsh has also more recently attacked men who watch anime, calling them satanic, and has supposedly jokingly implied that men who play games are undatable – something which conservative Glenn Beck has also seriously declared.
