PlayStation Blog reveals artist Ikumi Nakamura (former Creative Director of GhostWire: TokyoBayonetta concept artist, and indie studio owner) will be working on the game as a character designer. In the interview, she reveals she had played the first game on PlayStation 2 thanks to being a fan of Trigun.

“They told me that they knew how they would like to approach the visual aspect, but the core visual concept and its impact was not quite there,” Nakamura explains.

“The fact that I could refine the visual concept was the most interesting part when working on Gungrave G.O.R.E. In terms of the actual work process, I had to think of how to transform and bring Naito-sensei’s characters to life. This was both an appealing and challenging part of the project.”

Captions for concept art shared on PlayStation Blog also revealed more about the game. The Raven Clan are a criminal organization spreading SEED across the world to control humanity. Their organization will seem to have influence around the world, with bosses for different branches of their organization- such as Yensen Superior in Hong Kong. Nakamura explained more about that character’s design.

“Everything is related to how Yensen was raised in Hong Kong. I was inspired by Bian Lian, the traditional form of Chinese entertainment where the faces would change in a split second. This translated into Yensen’s movements during the battle to be unusual and eye-catching. I also had a vision at one point that Yensen Superior’s mask would move like Rorschach from Watchmen.”

Along with characters and bosses, Nakamura is working on a “special design” for Grave that will be revealed in upcoming new.s

Gungrave G.O.R.E. launches 2022 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
