Elden Ring update nerfs Mimic Tear ash, adds new quest phases, more

Elden Ring update nerfs Mimic Tear ash

A new Elden Ring update nerfs Mimic Tear ash, among many other enhancements, bug fixes, and tweaks for the popular action RPG.

The new update, version 1.03, brings with it a host of changes like many broken questlines have now been fixed, alongside new “quest phases” for NPCs Diallos, Nepheli Loux, Kenneth Haight, and Gatekeeper Gostoc. The Nepheli quest in particular had numerous players confused, so the added context will likely make it easier for them to progress. There’s also a new NPC Jar-Bairn, who is also located in Jarsburg.

The overall map in Elden Ring has been updated to add new icons that show the name of NPCs so players can find them easier on their travels. Furthermore, more NPCs are summonable across “multiple situations” now, while the Mimic Veil can mimic even more objects.

Some of the biggest changes will likely have many speedrunners and players looking for an easy way to farm runes upset, though. Both the Mimic Tear Ash and the Hoarfrost Stomp Ash of War were nerfed, effectively cutting down their damage noticeably. Both of these summons were used to basically cheese through boss fights or with the latter, cheese through the entire game and get sub-hour game completion speedruns.

Despite these two big nerfs, buffs of all kinds are mostly found in the big new update – there’s decreased FP usage on a number of spells like the Carian Greatsword, the Great Glintstone Shard, and others.
