John Romero and Adrian Carmack recently put up a Kickstarter for their bold return to classic shooters in the form of a new game, titled simply Blackroom.

One of the main complaints behind their Kickstarter was there was no gameplay, no footage, and no semblance of the game actually existing beyond the conceptual phases. Now, the studio is putting the game’s crowdfunding on hold, until they can put together a gameplay demo.

“We’re pressing ‘PAUSE’ on the fundraising campaign for Blackroom to complete this gameplay demo,” said the developer in the update. “Simply put, this will take more time than the Kickstarter has left, so we’ve decided to suspend the campaign and launch a new one when the gameplay demo is ready.”

The game originally had a funding goal of $700,000 to develop Blackroom for Windows PC. Prior to halting their campaign, they raised roughly $130,000 from backers.
