Bungie is the latest Sony studio to be hit with a wave of layoffs with a large number of staff affected in the new budget cuts.
The new report (via Bloomberg) notes roughly 8% of Bungie’s behemoth 1,200 staff have been cut in the new wave of layoffs, which comes down to an estimated 100 staff.
Sony acquired Bungie back in 2022, which most assumed to be a response to Microsoft’s announcement of acquiring Activision Blizzard. Their supposed plans for the developer were that they were to aid in their plans on creating more live service titles by 2025.
These layoffs are just another wave of companies hit with job losses under Sony. Other examples include Visual Arts (multiple times) and Media Molecule. CEO and president Jim Ryan also announced himself stepping down to retire.
Sony and Bungie’s troubles are not unique. Other gaming publishers and developers have also suffered layoffs. Including companies such as Ubisoft and Microsoft.
