Atari has been on a bit of an acquisition spree in the past year, buying up multitudes of intellectual properties (IPs) and trademarks.
Most of what they’ve picked up have been retro titles that haven’t seen any new releases in the past couple of decades, solidifying themselves as the retro leader in the gaming space.
As it turns out, Atari are also interested in more recent titles, at least relatively speaking, with their announcement of their acquisition of the Awesomenauts and Swords & Soldiers IP from Ronimo Games.
Awesomenauts is a 2D MOBA game which came out back in 2012. While the Swords & Soldiers franchise has seen two games launch in 2009 and 2015 respectively.
For those unaware, Ronimo Games unfortunately went bankrupt back in August 2023. Ronimo Games was originally formed back in 2007 by Dutch students from the Utrecht School of the Arts.
These are newer games compared to most of the others Atari’s latest pickups. However considering they are even considering making a new Bubsy title, it’s nearly certain the company has plans on creating new titles from these IPs.
