EA announced last month that their life simulation game, The Sims 4, would be going free-to-play. During the month leading up to the announced date, their kit Desert Luxe kit would be free to those who purchased the game before it would end up being free to all.
The Sims 4 would first launched all the way back on September 2, 2014. Ever since then it’s received dozens of expansion, game, and stuff packs the franchise has been known for. This iteration would also later introduce the concept of “kits” which are packs that are cheaper and even smaller in content compared to what is found in stuff packs.
The game going free-to-play also means that for EA Play and EA Play Pro members, they will gain access to member only bundles to expand on the game. The Play edition will get The Sims 4 Get To Work Expansion Pack, while the Pro edition gets that alongside the Toddler Stuff Pack.
The game now making its way into the free-to-play sphere also comes with a promise from the development team that they will continue to support the title with new updates and packs for the foreseeable future. One such update is the addition of infants into the game, after 8+ years in existence.
Recent updates to the game since its launch back in 2014 include the addition of custom pronouns, and sexual orientation for the sims characters.
The Sims 4 is available free on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam and Origin/EA App).
