Maxis has shown a first look at an upcoming feature that confirms The Sims 4 is getting custom pronouns, enabling players to let characters identify as whatever.
The new feature was shown in a livestream last month which gave fans of The Sims 4 a look behind the scenes at the development of the game.
Inclusive options already exist in game which allow users to select their Sims body type independent of their gender identity. Sims are also able to wear any clothing available in the game as they wish regardless of their character’s body type.
The Sims 4 is getting custom pronouns via a new customization box, which has three slots in order to ensure custom pronouns will be able to work grammatically in sentences. Three pronoun options appear to be available as defaults once the update is live.

- They/Them/Theirs
At present, this feature is still a work in progress and no date has been announced for when this particular feature will be updated into the game.
The Sims 4 is available now on Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
