NieR: Automata Steam Version is Finally Getting an Upgrade Patch

Publisher Square Enix and developer Platinum Games have announced the NieR: Automata Steam version is finally getting an upgrade patch.

While they confirmed the NieR: Automata Steam version is finally getting an upgrade patch, we only know that it’s currently in development – a release date for the patch wasn’t confirmed.

Square Enix came under fire when the Windows PC version of NieR: Automata launched through both the Microsoft Store and Xbox Game Pass was seemingly ported better than the original Windows PC version through Steam, which most PC fans bought. The Steam version has been riddled with issues since launch back in 2017.

Despite the Microsoft Store and Xbox Game Pass port resolving a number of the issues found in the Steam version, Steam users weren’t able to get an update that addresses these issues. Since launch, users have had to rely on fans modding and creating their own hotfixes to address the various issues found in the Steam port.

When NieR: Automata did launch on the Microsoft Store and Xbox Game Pass with the better port, Steam users were understandably angry and took to the game’s Steam page, review bombing it quite heavily to send a message they weren’t happy. It seems like Square Enix got the message – as the Steam version is finally getting that upgrade patch.

In recent news, the game has sold over 5.5 million copies just in time for its 4th anniversary, and the game’s final secret has been uncovered. This secret was teased by director Yoko Taro one year after launch in 2017, but only discovered this year. A biographical manga based on the life his life has also been announced; as part of the Game Creators of Biography series.

NieR: Automata is available on Windows PC (via the Microsoft Store, and Steam), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. In case you missed it, you can find our review here. We highly recommend it! In fact it was our Game of the Year 2017, and our Community Game of the Year 2017.
