1TB PlayStation 4 Slim Finally Coming to Retail

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a new PlayStation 4 Slim SKU for western audiences.

The PlayStation 4 Slim is finally getting a 1 terabyte model in the west, and it will retail for $299.99. To be clear, this is the older hardware architecture as denoted by the MSRP – not the upgraded PlayStation 4 Pro, which costs an extra $100.

Here’s that it includes:

  • 1TB PlayStation®4 System
  • DualShock®4 Wireless Controller (Jet Black)
  • HDMI Cable
  • Power Cable
  • Wired Mono Headset
  • USB Charging Cable

A release window for the new SKU wasn’t announced – however we’ll keep you guys posted.

Since its launch back in 2013, the PlayStation 4 has been made available in 123 countries and regions, and most recently broke a new milestone in selling over 53.4 million units worldwide.

Are they still giving the peasants 5400 RPM drives? These greedy fucks will skimp wherever they can.

  • Chocolate ISISCream

It’s time to make the switch guys. Why spend over 2 grand on a PC that’s only fractionally more powerful than vanilla PS4 (but not stronger than PS4Pro), when you can just get this for $299? Think about it.

  • Nagato

But then I also need to buy a TV to hook it up, a couch to sit on, a subscription to play online, a house to live in, monthly bills and taxes… at that point I’d rather buy a Switch and sleep in front of the Starbucks I’ll charge it at.

  • Nagato

The worst thing is that putting a proper 7200 RPM drive or an SSD in there yourself doesn’t even net you the gain you should, because you’d still be stuck with a device that only supports up to SATA 2.

  • Personaknight

Let me know when ps4 cycle is over and then I’ll pick it up so that I won’t be paying for a social network, trackpad, and graphics between ps3 and pc.

  • LibidinBoy

Once again, i’ll take the bait
    > 2 grand
    > marginally better than vanilla ps4

  • Mr0303

Hopefully it outsells the Pro and ends the trend of these mid generational upgrades.

  • tetrisdork

And none of them are bundled with this 1TB PS4 at this moment. At least MS has a game bundled with every Xbox One system, and if they are smart, can undercut the 1TB PS4 by cutting the 1TB Xbone price down to $299.

  • DrearierSpider

They actually found this to also be the case with the Pro, which does support SATA 3. My guess is the system’s limited by that crappy tablet CPU.

  • SevTheBear

Yeah is a waste of money investing in a SSD for PS4 or Xbox for the matter. Let’s hope the next gen consoles that we might see around 2020 can do better + has better CPUs.

  • SevTheBear

PC gaming is only more expensive than console gaming if you for go for the best of the best all. Going PC or console gaming first time you need

    – TV or Monitor
    – Sound setup via SS or SS headset
    – Consoles needs a extra controller and PC Keyboard and mouse
    – Games (obviously)
    – Online play costs money on console. On PC it’s free

I would say that consoles has the bonus of have all the content ready to play on the disk. But these days you have to be lucky if the game don’t need a 500 MB – 2 GB update to work properly

  • SevTheBear

let’s see 1440p gaming with 60-100 fps…. yeah I think there is a reason why my PC is my main platform :P

It took PS4 3 years before there were enough games to play on it (yes I own PC and console = Gaming Master Race). The system has some good exclusive games, but it sure as hell took a few years before we got them + how many of them are remasters from PS3 or look likes a PS3 game in 1080p?

  • Lucy Taylor

    Still expensive…

  • OSad

    > 2k dollar machine
    > not stronger than a 399 dollar machine

    Gehehe. ISISCream, the Master Baiter.

  • Alister

    You forgot Blazblue.

  • NukeA6

All content ready on the disk? I don’t know. Last time I checked, they were still doing microtransactions and day-one DLC on consoles. Or has that stopped recently?

  • Nalferd

Exclusives let me pulled the trigger as well. And huge download sizes (third world internet sucks so bad.)

  • Tristan (Chili1)

$1200 gets you a PC more powerful than the PS4Pro.
Where are you getting this “over two grand” thing for something weaker than a vanilla PS4?

  • chocodino

I wouldn’t say “ready to play on the disk” when you have to wait for the game to install, then update, just to play.

  • Magilou

After the external hdd update I just don’t care about storage anymore. I already have a a 1TB Pro so eh but this is good for people that still haven’t gotten a ps4 yet.

  • Joe

Well Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted 4 and Order 1886 all have better graphics than anything on PC at the moment. So there’s that.

  • BaronKrause

    That’s absolutely ridiculous.

  • BaronKrause

Or you can not be a peasant and get the pro. It’s stupid to buy a normal at this time.

  • SevTheBear

Would play The Witcher 3, Crysis 3, GTA 5 and many other games at 60 fps on PC any day over the console version.

Order 1886 may be pretty, but it’s an average boring game that not many care about and locked at 25-30 fps.

The Uncharted series has always looked good and U4 is a pretty one I give you that. Just annoying that you can’t play the story mode with 60 fps since it’s possible in MP in 900p and 1080p (Pro version) + I would call the story mode a movie more than a game.

Horizon is pretty to. Story is okay for the most part, gameplay is like Far Cry so if you are into that it’s fine. Locked at 30 fps which sucks.

I am not saying that PS4 has bad games. But you need to own a PS4 Pro to even come close to the performance and resolution PC has been having for the last 10 years. The good thing about PC is the freedom to chance settings to get the performance you want as well + SSDs sure as hell do a lot for the performance if you have the money

I will be looking forward to see if PS5 in 2020 will come with a CPU that doesn’t bottle the system and has 60 fps as an option instead of locked 30 fps.

PS. if consoles needs midway upgrades, they are not any cheaper than a PC.

  • SevTheBear

    As I said

“I would say that consoles has the bonus of having all the content ready to play on the disk. But these days you have to be lucky if the game don’t need a 500 MB – 2 GB update to work properly”

  • SevTheBear

The dumb day 1 DLC is just locked away or removed content that want you to pay 15$ extra for. What I am talking about is that some games are buggy and sometimes unplayable at launch unless you download the 500 MB or 2 GB update.

  • Feniks

Look I only play JRPGs and VNs these days and I don’t give a flying FUCK about graphics but if you are a graphics whore a PC is still better and that will never change.

  • Feniks

Yeah they should have put a 1TB SSD in there smartass.

  • Feniks

MS has been undercutting the PS4 in Europe for years but nobody wants one. It is not only about price.

  • Chocolate ISISCream

Horizon Zero Dawn is the best looking game this gen. Name 1 PC game that looks better.

  • DrearierSpider

Where did I say they should have included an SSD, you dumb fuck? They could’ve very easily included a 7200 RPM drive, which does have noticeably better load times in some games and costs almost exactly the same as 5400 RPM variants.

  • sAy_YaS

I’ve flipped back and forth between consoles and pc. I’ve been at pc for a few years now after getting fed up with low framerates in many ps3 games. I was sort of expecting ps4 to nullify this with the improved horsepower (and then Pro) that comes with new Gen hardware, but as expected most devs prefer to push high resolutions or better eye candy in favor of framerates.
On pc though, i can decide what I want. And while there’s a lot of ps4 exclusive games I’m missing out on, there’s a lot of great Steam games I’ve discovered that aren’t available on ps4.

  • chocodino

Yes, but even if there was no update, you still have to install the game (making the disc nothing more than a glorified bootloader), unless it is a Nintendo console.

  • Chocolate ISISCream

Like what? There is just indie trash.

  • I still have the original PS4 model. It’s still doing me good with stacks upon stacks of good games to play.

It will serve me well until the PS5 arrives and even then I will be still using it. I still even use my PS3.

  • Star Citizen.

  • Isn’t that on PC too?

  • No thanks as I am happy with my gaming pc and my Nintendo switch. I don’t really need a PS4.
