Nintendo Switch Paid Online Service Detailed – Free Monthly NES/SNES Game, More

Nintendo fully unveiled their upcoming Nintendo Switch console last night with new details including release date, pricing, launch titles, and more.

With the reveal came a surprising bit of news – the company will begin charging users to get online features.

In order to access features like online gaming, online lobby and voice chat, “monthly game download,” and exclusive deals, you’ll have to pony up for the paid subscription. For a time around the launch of the console, these features will be free – however they’re getting locked behind a paywall this fall.

An interesting note is that Nintendo is taking a page out of Sony and Microsoft’s book – they’ll begin offering free NES and SNES games every month you’re a subscriber, but they’re only available to play that month.

The Nintendo Switch will launch worldwide on March 3rd, 2017.
