Not long after its global reveal, we’ve learned Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties is cutting content that was present in its original release.
Speaking a new interview, Yakuza series chief producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto and Yakuza Kiwami 3 producer/director Ryosuke Horii confirmed there would be content cut from the new remake.
So far, they’ve only confirmed the popular “Revelation” system from the original Yakuza 3 are being cut. “We didn’t include the Revelation system in Yakuza Kiwami 3,” Sakamoto said.
For those that haven’t played the games, the “Revelation” system was first introduced in Ryū ga Gotoku Kenzan! and quickly became a fan favorite part of the game. It let players get unique abilities through humorous scenes throughout the game world.
“To put it another way, the adventure in Yakuza 3 was pretty much just about Divine Revelation,” Horii said. “It’s not that we’re rejecting everything from Yakuza 3.”
He added, “We’re focusing on eliminating unnecessary elements, making the main story clearer, enhancing the drama’s immersion, and more carefully depicting the relationship with Rikiya. That’s the direction we’re taking.”
In Yakuza 3, series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu could learn unique heat moves via blogging about events that happened in Kamurocho and Downtown Ryukyu.
It’s worth mentioning Kiryu learned to blog and pursue these events via a man named Mack Shinozuka, so we likely won’t see him in the remake.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties is in development for Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PS5 with a global release set for February 12th, 2025.
