Microsoft have announced an Inside Xbox live stream event, showcasing the world’s first look at gameplay on the Xbox Series X.
The news comes via Twitter, with the official Xbox One account tweeting the following.
“You want to see games for the Xbox Series X? We want to show you games for the Xbox Series X.
Check out First Look next-gen gameplay from our global developers partners within #InsideXbox on Thursday, May 7 at 8am PT.”
In addition, General Manager of Xbox Games Marketing Aaron Greenberg tweeted “So pumped to see our partners showing us a first look at Xbox Series X gameplay next week! Also know the Xbox Game Studios teams are hard at work on some big summer plans. More details soon! #GetHyped”
Ubisoft also stated that the first Assassin’s Creed Valhalla gameplay trailer would be seen during the presentation. Devolver Digital also showed their excitement, possibly indicating they will have something to show as well.
The above would match with earlier rumors that both Microsoft and Sony were planning showcases for their new consoles in May (the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 respectively). This came about after the cancellation of E3 2020 (both physical and digital events).
While the Xbox event does not guarantee a PlayStation event will happen in May, Microsoft have played their hand first. While both companies will continue to compete, both must be cautious not to over-estimate what they can deliver at the time of the coronavirus pandemic.
We do not even know what the PlayStation 5 looks like, with Bloomberg claiming that the console’s production will be “limited” in its first year due to difficulties in acquiring the components.
This has lead to speculation that the Dualsense controller was revealed due to Microsoft forcing PlayStation’s hand. Microsoft had revealed the Xbox Series X over a month prior.
Rumors claim Nintendo has cancelled their June Nintendo Direct due to complications caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Even the best laid plans could all be upended, no matter which of the “Big Three” seem to be doing best.
