Indie developer Chucklefish shared a new dev blog for Witchbrook, showing off the character creator in their long awaited fantasy life sim game.
In the new dev blog, senior artist and “self-professed fashionista” Jade Evans talked up the game’s character creator and how players can truly make a character all their own.
” We wanted to explore different silhouettes, palettes and styles to avoid falling into the trap of everybody looking the same or restricting player expression,” Evans said. “Whilst there’s nothing wrong with t-shirts and jeans, it’s always nice to have more choice!”
The game’s city of Mossport is a “living, breathing city” with hundreds of people going about their lives, and as such “if the clothes don’t feel seasonal or weather-appropriate, they’re going to look out of place and break immersion.”
Here’s a teaser video of the intricate layers system:
Furthermore, the game’s clothing system lets players layer various bits of clothing and even accessories – with 11 total layers (which doesn’t count hair, fringes and facial hair). This naturally gives players nearly endless choices, all with the goal of being able to see themselves in the game.
“Players should be able to see themselves in the game,” Evans said. “so we’ve included a variety of skin tones and hairstyles covering a range of different hair textures.
“The system we’ve created includes different fringe options (or ‘bangs’ for those of you across the pond) that can be mixed and matched. Mossport’s salon will let you change up your style any time from hairstyle and colour, to trimming (or growing) your facial hair!”
Witchbrook is set to launch across Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox Game Pass sometime in 2026.
