WildStar Might Come to PS4 and XB1, Console Port “Seems to Make a Lot of Sense”

wildstar 10-11-15-1

It seems like MMORPGs that go free-to-play (or launched as such) going to consoles has become all the rage now, as WildStar could be the latest to make the leap to consoles.

The news comes via an interview between Gamespot and Carbine Studios product director Mike Donatelli, who said that bringing the MMORPG to consoles “seems to make a lot of sense,” although he didn’t absolutely confirm the possibility.

“We have seen many MMOs who have made that transition to console being successful,” said Donatelli. “So I think it would be safe to say, without saying too much, that, for any successful MMO who is looking to expand their business, looking at the console seems to make a lot of sense.”

WildStar recently saw a massive overhaul and a transition to free-to-play, complete with a new lighting engine, dubbed WildStar: Reloaded, which launched on September 29th.

Which MMo’s have transitioned to console and are considered good?
FFXIV was built for console as well as PC, and FFXIV:ARR is actually a good game unlike Wildstar

Is he high? I can’t think of any MMO being successful on consoles.

I think the Final Fantasy MMOs did okay on their respective consoles. Not great, but okay.

Everything else: PFFFT. Unless they count not-MMOs like Warframe or Destiny.

The Final Fantasy MMOs did(or are doing, in the case of XIV) phenomenally well on consoles, but there’s a major factor as to why that is: Japan. Since PC gaming is exceptionally smaller over there, and the majority of gaming takes place on Playstations, all their top MMOs are running on Playstation as well. Over here, PC is the leading platform for the games and always has been, but the option to use a Playstation doesn’t really hurt; I’ve a friend who plays XIV on his PS4 because his PC is dated and too weak to do so.

I wouldn’t see Wildstar doing well on Console, though. It’s combat is a good fit, but it’s actual focus (Large-scale, intricate & excessively difficult raid encounters) really isn’t. The only MMO that really comes to mind that transitioned to Console from PC and was/is successful is Neverwinter, opinions on the actual value of said game aside, and that’s a game focused entirely around brainless casual content.

Wow, I’ve joked about it not surviving before but this much desperation makes it look so much more true.

I hope Dragon Quest X getting a PS4 version will make SquareEnix bring it over.

If they do, which I doubt, I hope we’d at least get the PC or Wii U version.

This is what you get, NCSOFT. All you had to do was stick with City of Heroes.

I can only think of what a single player game based on this would be like. Something open world yet having multiple campaigns.

Would think that they didn’t because of lowering traffic.

That’s just the thing, if we are lucky to get it, PS4 is as lucky as we can get because with how SE is with the series, we’d end up with the IOS version, maybe the 3DS version if they really wanna annoy us.

Actually it’s rather ambitious to go to console with a MMO like WIldstar. Most MMOs that moved to console so far are themepark/minigame types, and moving to consoles could easily raise the player population and the console’s play value as well since its a free game.
