Webfishing is a multiplayer fishing game where you play for cute animals and chat with other players as you fish. Webfishing released last month to overwhelmingly positive reviews from Steam’s userbase, sitting at five stars at the time of writing with 15,880 reviews. Now, new patch Housecleaning Update Patch 1.09 has added in the option to buy a Straight title for your character…but you have to pay $9,999 fish bucks.
For context, Webfishing has an in-game money system where you earn money for catching fish. You can buy different cosmetics, some of which are just jokes, but others are used to express gender identity. For example, there are Ace, Gay, Bi, and Trans titles. Each one of them costs $75 fish bucks.
The new straight title was added by the developers in response to a now closed Steam thread asking for a Straight title. Steam user jaid wrote, “we got gay, we got trans, we got pan, we got bi. when straight comin out.” The thread has since been closed, but managed to garner over 150 replies, most of whom were disagreeing with the need for a straight title. However, the developer has acquiesced to the request, though in a trolling fashion, considering how expensive the title is compared to other titles.
Still, the high price will likely inspire some players to try and reach it by catching more fish than they normally would have. Even if players aren’t interested in the title itself, simply dangling a reward at a ridiculously high price is likely to ensure its status as a cool prize in the eyes of hardcore players.
WEBFISHING is available now on Windows PC (via Steam).
