Rumor: Warner Smash Bros. Fighter in Development, Includes Gandalf, Shaggy, and More

Warner Bros. Smash Bros. Fighter

A new rumor is suggesting a Warner Smash Bros. fighter is in development, with a roster including none other than Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings, Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, and more.

The new Warner Smash Bros. fighter is reportedly (via Reddit) called “Multiversus,” whether that’s a codename or the actual final name for the title remains to be seen. GamesBeat writer Jeff Grubb corroborated the rumor, saying it’s real but not developed by NetherRealm Studios.

However, Warner Bros. did actually file a trademark for “Multiversus” last month, adding credence to this rumor actually being real. The rumor noted the game is a “tag team” fighter, but did not elaborate if this meant you can only play on teams (or free-for-all, etc).

The rumor claims the initial confirmed characters include:

  • Shaggy from Scooby-Doo
  • Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings
  • Tom & Jerry
  • Batman
  • Fred Flintstone
  • Mad Max
  • Johnny Bravo

The rumor claims one of the original inspirations for the Warner Bros. Smash Bros. fighter is none other than the “Ultra Instinct Shaggy” meme, a hilarious poke at Dragon Ball’s Ultra Instinct Goku.

The meme was later made real, or possibly part of Warner Bros. canon, as the intro titles for their Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms movie actually included Ultra Instinct Shaggy.

Warner Bros. isn’t new to mixing up their massive library of licenses and IPs, between Lego Dimensions (which combined The Lego Movie, Batman, LOTR, Scooby-Doo, and more) and Space Jam: A New Legacy, they’ve clearly been trying to have their own “cinematic universe”, a la Marvel.

It’s also worth noting Nickelodeon recently launched their own cross-franchise platform brawler, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, for PC and consoles. While initial excitement was there, our review found the game to be painfully lacking despite it’s fantastic premise.

As with any rumor, take this with a grain of salt. Regardless – would you like to see a Warner Bros. crossover brawler game like Super Smash Bros.? Gandalf slapping Johnny Bravo with Glamdring? Sound off in the comments below!
