Waifu Wednesday: Washu from Tenchi Muyo

Washu Tenchi Muyo

Welcome back to Waifu Wednesday, Niche Gamer’s column where we talk about characters, their appeal, and a little on their history.

Full disclosure, I did not watch much Tenchi Muyo. To me it was just that weird show on Toonami after Dragon Ball Z. However the reader that requested Washu for Waifu Wednesday said they would call us a “big stinky doo doo head” if she wasn’t featured, so here we are.

Washu is a seemingly immortal genius, goddess, and sometimes school teacher. Emblematic of 90s anime, she has spiky pink hair with spiky tufts that hang down around her eyes but otherwise her hair is usually pulled back to expose her forehead.

Washu takes on a smug and sometimes maternal role throughout the show, which makes sense since she’s technically had at least two children. With her scientific prowess and the wisdom of centuries, Washu is often a source of trouble for Tenchi and the rest of the characters (though she’s just as often able to solve it).

As a key part of the Tenchi Muyo cast, she’s appeared in some form or another across the franchise’s multiple series.

While I may not know much about Tenchi Muyo, I do know that they really don’t make anime like they used to.

Feel free to share who your waifu is on our Twitter or Facebook and who knows, we might feature them in a regular Waifu Wednesday post!
