Welcome back to Waifu Wednesday, Niche Gamer’s column where we talk about characters, their appeal, and a little on their history.
Today’s waifu is Ritsu Tainaka from K-ON!
Ritsu is the Light Music Club President and drummer for After-School Tea Time (Houkago Tea time). Ritsu is the tomboy of the series with her iconic short hair, upbeat personality, and athleticism.
She’s a silly jokester who plays the belligerent in a lot of the show’s humor, relying on Yui’s earnestness or Mio’s straight-laced nature to act as the foil for her silliness.
Despite being the group tomboy, she has scenes where she’s able to contrast her girlishness like playing Juliet in the school play, creating a gap more of a tomboy character who can act girly (quick shoutout to Makoto from IM@S, we’ll give you your own feature one week).
