Welcome back to Waifu Wednesday, Niche Gamer’s column where we talk about characters, their appeal, and a little on their history.
It’s Waifu Wednesday! This week’s waifu is Nagi Arato from Ruri Rocks (Ruri no Houseki)!
Nagi is a graduate student of mineralogy and acts as the secondary protagonist of the series, guiding the younger Ruri Tanagawa into her blossoming hobby in rock collecting and cataloguing.
Throughout the series, Nagi provides much of the exposition and information about rocks and stones, proving she’s more than just a pretty face.
Aesthetically, Nagi plays a curvy onee-san type foil to Ruri’s bratty and energetic archetype. Throughout the early episodes we’ve seen so far, Studio Bind isn’t shy about animating Nagi’s body and clothing, giving viewers some fanservice right from the getgo. Especially since her go-to fashion is tight jeans and a button down shirt.
Perhaps you know Studio Bind for their work on Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation and ONIMAI: I’m Now Your Sister. The latter of which also isn’t shy about fanservice. Not to mention Bind’s bouncy animation style shines through in slice of life scenes which this series is sure to have plenty of.
