Welcome back to Waifu Wednesday, Niche Gamer’s column where we talk about characters, their appeal, and a little on their history.
Today’s waifu is Misono Mika from Blue Archive!
Spoilers ahead for the Eden Treaty story if you’re a Blue Archive player who hasn’t done it yet.
Mika is canonically (and in-game) one of the strongest students in Kivotos and a member of the Tea Party at Trinity General School. The Tea Party (and the name Trinity itself) are a reference to the Holy Trinity in Christianity, with each member of the Tea Party representing one of the three facets of God Pater (The Father), Filius (The Son), and Sanctus (The Holy Spirit). Mika represents the Pater faction.
In-game she’s the strongest Piercing damage Striker with guaranteed critical hits and a powerful EX ability, both these facts allow her to outpace all other single target Piercing Strikers in all but the worst situations.
Storywise, Mika is a character with strong emotions, her contempt for the Gehenna Academy leading her to make a Faustian bargain with a member of Gematria, a group of scheming adults who infiltrated Kivotos as well as the hidden Arius school (the name Arius has two relevant religious meanings, both possibly referring to Ares the Greek god of War, but more relevant to Trinity’s themes of Christianity the third century heretic Arius).
More than anything, Mika is a student who does what she thinks is right, even if it leads her to making bad decisions. Due to her force of will and strength, her bad decisions are exacerbated by her ability to follow through with them. But after realizing her mistakes, she wants nothing more than to receive forgiveness (we could do a whole article on the religious themes in Blue Archive).
When it gets down to it, Mika is able to become a self-sacrificing character who turns her strength against evil in order to protect those she’s wronged in the past, even against overwhelming odds.
Makoto Kino was suggested by me, the writer! (It’s her birthday! Can you blame me?)
Feel free to share who your waifu is on our Twitter or Facebook and who knows, we might feature them in a regular Waifu Wednesday post!
Blue Archive is available now on mobile devices. You can check out our review here! (as far as mobile games go, we still recommend it!) An anime series also premiered this season.
