Welcome back to Waifu Wednesday, Niche Gamer’s column where we talk about characters, their appeal, and a little on their history.
It’s Waifu Wednesday! This week’s waifu is Mina from My Wife Has No Emotion!
Mina is the female lead in the series My Wife Has No Emotion. Mina is a household robot designed to assist her owner with tasks, acting as part maid, part personal assistant. However her owner Takuma still feels a bit lonely. Surprisingly, when he jokes that Mina should be his wife, Mina takes it seriously and together the two try and start a life together.
Mina is emphatically a robot; she rejects upgrades and transformations that would make her more human and Takuma always takes Mina’s own desires into account. In Takuma’s case, he’s more than happy to keep Mina the way he fell in love with her, despite her inability to show any expression besides the one her face was modeled with. However, throughout the course of the series Mina acts more and more human, beginning to manifest some sense of what it means to love and to be loved.
Underneath the gimmick of being a robot, Mina is an archetypical cute newlywed. She sulks when she’s upset, and she has high expectations for her husband, even when he doesn’t have them for himself.
An anime series from Tezuka Productions aired last year.
