Valkyria: Azure Revolution to Get More RPG-Like Due to Harsh Fan Feedback

This week’s Famitsu (via Hachima) has confirmed that Sega and developer Media Vision are looking to re-work how the game plays, due to mixed and sometimes harsh fan feedback of its playable demo included with Valkyria Chronicles Remastered.

In the interview with director Takeshi Kozawa, it was revealed the studio is completely re-working the more action-RPG battle system found in the demo to something more RPG-like.

Lots of feedback said the more action-focused gameplay made it hard to think strategically, so a new action gauge has been implemented for both player units and enemies. This new system will allow players to make new actions when the gauge fills up, and you can even pause time while using abilities or weapons.

As this is a Valkyria game, Kozawa thought a more strategic approach to battle would be more demanded, and as such, you’ll have to fight within a unit and make full use of your allies. To aid with this, the team is looking into ways you can customize your allies’ AI, as well as give out direct commands.

Field encounters have been removed entirely from the game, and the number of party members has been raised from three to four. Finally, Sega is looking to release a new demo sometime this summer.

Valkyria: Azure Revolution is still on track for a release sometime this winter in Japan, for PlayStation 4.
