UPDATE: V Voice Actor Brian Hanford May have Leaked a New Capcom Vs. Game

Devil May Cry 5

Update:

Brian Hanford has issued another tweet, dissuading claims he has any knowledge of an upcoming Capcom vs. game.

24 hours after his first tweet, Hanford stated the following:

“Let me be 100% clear, I have NO KNOWLEDGE of any new Capcom games or the potential of what any of their games may entail. This tweet was about me being a big fan & seeing an Instagram ad about Capcom characters. Again, please understand, I am in no way teasing or revealing info.”

In spite of this, many Twitter users replies indicate they believed Hanford the first time around.

Original Story:

Brian Hanford- the voice actor for V in Devil May Cry 5- may have just leaked the existence of a new Capcom Vs. game.

Speaking on Twitter, Hanford stated “Absolutely pumped for the next #CapcomVS game!!! New characters but could be VERY familiar…” At this time, Capcom have not announced a new game in the Capcom Vs. series (or Vs. Capcom as the title is usually formatted).

The use of a hashtag may also indicate Hanford spoke before an embargo was lifted, as oppose to just stating his love for the franchise and hoping V would be included in a future game.

The hashtag itself may also indicate the other franchise will not be revealed until later, once an official announcement happens (if at all).

Now that Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 is returning to EVO 2020, a reveal of a new Marvel Vs. Capcom game during the event would make sense. The past two EVO tournaments have also only had featured one Capcom title, Street Fighter 5Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 made its last appearance at EVO in 2017.

However, Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite had a poor reception, and Handford omitted the other franchise’s name. A Capcom Vs. title with another popular franchise would therefore be logical. If Hanford did not misspeak, it may indicate Dante and V will be joining that roster.

This is not the first time Hanford’s comments have caused speculation. The reveal of style switching coming to Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition on Nintendo Switch was teased, though only as a special announcement.

The date coincided with a presentation of the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character reveal, leaving many to suspect Dante would be coming to the game.

Speculation increased even further, thanks to comments made by Hanford during a podcast. He stated he wished V would be in cross-over games like Marvel Vs. Capcom or Smash Bros., but felt it was incredibly unlikely.

“This is what kills me about it, I’m a new character,” Hanford stated. “So I’m not in the DMC lore enough to ever be considered for Super Smash, and that would be the ultimate life goal. To be part of Marvel Vs. Capcom, or Super Smash Bros.- or both, which is what Dante is going to be.”

We were skeptical at the time Hanford had indeed leaked Dante coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as there were possibilities that he misspoke, or felt Dante being part of that game was inevitable.

Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses was confirmed instead. There is still a slim chance Dante be one of the six additional DLC fighters coming to the game.

We will keep you informed as we learn more.
