Umbraclaw

Inti Creates has announced a Switch port for Umbraclaw alongside other details and a new trailer from BitSummit 2023.

Their new sidescrolling action game from Blaster Master Zero director Satoru Nishizawa is coming to Switch alongside the previously announced Windows PC (via Steam) version. A release date is still not confirmed.

Here’s the new details for the previously announced game, plus a new trailer:

In the 2D side-scrolling action game, players take control of Kuon, a cat on a perilous journey through the afterlife known as the Soulplane. Kuon must brave the afterlife in order to return home to his master.

Taking the helm of development on Umbraclaw, Blaster Master Zero director Satoru Nishizawa will show that cats are not just cute, but cool heroes as well. The game also features an enchanting, art-book graphical style with a hint of darkness that reflects its story.

Will Kuon be able to break through the Boundary to return home safely…?

Revealing Kuon’s Human Form and a Nintendo Switch release!

Originally announced as a PC (Steam) release, Umbraclaw will also be launching on Nintendo Switch! A playable demo of the Switch version will be available at the INTI CREATES booth at this weekend’s Bitsummit Let’s Go!!

New Details

In Umbraclaw, players take control of Kuon, a house cat on a mission to return to his master after he dies and finds himself trapped in the Soulplane. Players will have to contend with the multitude of dangerous foes inhabiting the Soulplane with Kuon’s special abilities, “Shadowstep” and “Anima Revive.”

Kuon’s Human Form

Kuon’s special Human Form has also been revealed for the first time!

Run right through small enemies with Shadowstep!

When using Shadowstep to avoid a boss’s attacks, Kuon will accumulate skill energy. When Kuon’s skill energy is full, he can unleash “Fatal Stomp,” a powerful attack that deals massive damage to the boss. “Shadowstep” and “Anima Revive” forge Kuon’s path home!

“Shadowstep” and “Anima Revive” forge Kuon’s path home!

Run right through small enemies with Shadowstep!

Dodge any threat with “Shadowstep”

As a mere house cat, Kuon has no way to fight back against enemies he encounters. He must use “Shadowstep,” an invincible dash that will let him pass through enemies and their attacks.

However, he cannot use it endlessly; it will drain Kuon’s stamina each time he uses it.

Find hope in death with “Anima Revive”!

Kuon’s frail body can’t even withstand a single attack before he is defeated. However, when Kuon loses his life in the Soulplane, “Anima Revive” activates to give him another chance with renewed strength.

Kuon absorbs the soul of an animal each time he uses Anima Revive, giving him a new skill from that animal. Each of these skills will make the journey through the Soulplane easier.

Repeatedly using Anima Revive will transform Kuon into his Human Form.

This form is much more capable in battle, and powers up all of his Animal Skills

As the legend goes, “cats have nine lives.” Kuon’s lives are limited to nine.

Will Kuon be able to return to his master before his nine lives run out?
