Ubisoft have announced that the Xbox Collector’s Editions for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Far Cry 6, and Watch Dogs: Legion will be digital only in the UK.
The update on Ubisoft UK’s support page reads as follows, and offers little insight as to why the decision was made.
“Pre-orders for Collector’s Editions of ASSASSIN’S CREED VALHALLA, FAR CRY 6 and WATCH DOGS: LEGION for Xbox will receive a digital key to REDEEM, instead of a physical disc.
Collector’s Editions for PlayStation will receive physical game discs.
The remaining content of your Collector’s Edition will still arrive THROUGH THE POST as normal.”
An Ubisoft spokesperson told Polygon that the change does not affect North America. The reason for this was still not stated, and the decision is curious.
While the PlayStation 5 was confirmed to be having a digital version with no disc drive, the Xbox Series X has no officially announced digital version. Leaked images of what may be the new Xbox Series X controller and its packaging may have revealed the Xbox Series S; which may be the rumored digital version.
All three titles had previously been confirmed to support free upgrades to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions from current generation consoles. While Microsoft announced their Smart Delivery upgrade system first, Sony have appeared to be matching Microsoft with upgrading major titles. Previously Sony had stated “the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable” on the PlayStation 5.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla launches November 17th on Windows PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Google Stadia.
Far Cry 6 launches February 18th, 2021, for Windows PC (via UPlay), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
Watch Dogs: Legion launches October 29th for Windows PC (via the Epic Games Store, and UPlay), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and Holiday 2020 for PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
