Ubisoft Merges Uplay and Ubisoft Club Into New Service, Ubisoft Connect

Ubisoft Connect

Ubisoft has announced they’re merging Uplay and Ubisoft Club into a new, singular platform called simply Ubisoft Connect.

Ubisoft is describing the new platform as an “ecosystem of players services for all Ubisoft games across all platforms” that will launch alongside the release of Watch Dogs Legion on October 29th, their next big game release for this year.

Just like Uplay, Ubisoft Connect is free and will be accessible from within your Ubisoft account. Ubisoft Connect will let players enjoy cross play and cross-progression in “select games”, meaning players on PC and consoles can play together, and save data can be interchangeably used between PC and consoles.

With the merging of Ubisoft Club, you’ll also be eligible for a new rewards program similar to what is found currently in Uplay. Players can gain XP and level up by playing Ubisoft games, rake in “Units” that can be used to buy in-game items. Existing Club Units and XP will naturally be brought over into Ubisoft Connect.

Not all games will be transferred over to Ubisoft Connect, however Ubisoft is giving away all the rewards from those older games that won’t have active challenge systems. You can find the entire list of games being merged over to Ubisoft Connect here.

The in-game overlay is getting renamed and redesigned, but it will keep the features of the current Uplay overlay. There are changes to how it functions, however, as the chat and settings options will be available within the Ubisoft Connect app, but won’t be available in the PC overlay.

Here’s a new trailer for the service:

Other publishers, like Electronic Arts, have also recently rebranded their competing services, like EA Play – read more about that here in our previous report.

“The first step in transforming the app into Ubisoft Connect will be with the all-new overlay. Ubisoft’s live games, old and new, will be compatible with Ubisoft Connect services and loyalty program. Some of these titles include Hyper Scape, The Division 2, For Honor, and Ghost Recon Breakpoint, with Rainbow Six: Siege being added in an update shortly after release,” Ubisoft said in a statement. “Ubisoft Connect will also be included in all major upcoming Ubisoft games with Watch Dogs: Legion being the first to use its features on all platforms.”

To recap, Ubisoft Connect will go live alongside the launch of Watch Dogs Legion on October 29th. The existing Uplay desktop app will get updated to Ubisoft Connect through an update that will get downloaded and applied automatically. You can find the full details over in the Ubisoft Connect FAQ.
