Nintendo is known for being a company that is mostly focused on the “fun” aspect of gaming, not so much the narrative or creating groundbreaking dramas that move the industry forward.
Despite this, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime thinks having Twitch TV streaming on the Wii U is not “a lot of fun.” He said this in an interview with Polygon, the full blurb came as such:
“We don’t think streaming 30 minutes of gameplay by itself is a lot of fun.”
He elaborated a bit, and said that Nintendo is looking at Twitch to support various events that the company is holding, like the Treehouse Live stream at E3:
“We’re looking to do a lot of great things with Twitch… The Nintendo Treehouse Live at E3 that we’re executing through Twitch is doing fantastic numbers.”
However, he kind of backtracked a bit and asked a pretty blunt question, wondering if pure gameplay Twitch streaming is fun, from a consumer standpoint:
“Your specific question of just purely streaming gameplay, what we’ve got to think through is, so what’s fun about that? From a consumer standpoint, what’s fun about it?”
Microsoft and Sony have seen a boon of Twitch streaming on both of their next-gen consoles, and many users were probably hoping that Nintendo would jump on the sharing bandwagon as well. After hearing Reggie’s input, it sounds like this won’t come for a long time.
