Toys for Bob says independence has allowed the studio to rediscover what it loves

Toys for Bob

The studio behind Skylanders, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and Crash Bandicoot 4 recently spoke about life after Activision, revealing that becoming independent has allowed the team to focus once again on the types of games it truly wants to create.

According to studio leadership (via IGN), many developers felt disconnected from their strengths while working as a support studio on Call of Duty projects.

Although those assignments were important for Activision, they weren’t the colorful, character-driven experiences that Toys for Bob had built its reputation on.

That changed in 2024 when the studio became independent following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Since then, the team has been operating with a smaller, more focused structure while exploring new partnerships and future projects.

Additionally, Toys for Bob is developing the newly announced Spyro: A Realm Beyond in partnership with Activision, which was, in fact, the rumored game they’ve been working with XBOX.

Spyro: A Realm Beyond is in development for Windows PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PS5 with a release set for spring 2027.
