Japanese media giant TOHO has acquired animation studio Science Saru in a bid to compete more in the animation industry.

TOHO is a Japanese media producer which has been active since the 1930s, they’ve produced classics such as the original Godzilla movie, Ringu, and more. They’ve also produced anime movies and series such as Inuyasha and co-produced Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away.

Science Saru is a young studio which began operating in 2013 and has worked on titles such as the recent Scott Pilgrim anime series, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken and more. Their first solo animated feature was the cult classic film The Night is Short, Walk on Girl.
