We’ve covered a lot of interesting Minecraft creations here at Niche Gamer, but this one is definitely one of the more unique ones out there.
Twitch user JL2579 decided to go from point 0/0 to the very edge of the procedurally generated Minecraft world, which equates to about 30,000 KM, or roughly twice the diameter of the Earth itself. This is different from other users who decided to walk to the end of the procedurally generated Minecraft world (and doing it in chunks), as he is literally streaming it until the very end.
You can actually watch him do it live in the Twitch stream right above – the combination of the seemingly endless (it will come to an end) minecart riding and the extremely relaxing music is quite invigorating.
The minecart itself is traveling at 20 meters a second, which is what makes this journey take so long – 17 real-life days, in fact.
If you’re curious how this is even feasibly possible, he did use some witchcraft to make it work:
I set up command blocks to clone a template bridge pillar in the spawnchunks in front of the last bridge pier when a minecart would ride over them. I also added some fancy overhang and Mountain detection to add tunnel segments when the track goes through an Extreme Hill. Then I let several instances of Minecraft run from different starting points at the same time with the help of some friends from zipkrowd, and together we were able to generate the chunks within few days.
The rails and the world are therefore pregenerated, because the terrain and the bridge generation caused massive lag and would have ruined the smooth ride :)
He even gets into the nitty-gritty with how it really works, just in case you skeptics out there still don’t believe this is real:
No, he won’t press f3, that would ruin the view, and the view is the reason for the stream
There is a death ray in front of the minecart, no animals will turn him around
Lava and water will not be on the track, it is pregenerated
The track is pregenerated
Yes there are no farlands, but no that is not even mentioned in the FAQ or title
17 days
No not Minecraft days
Look in the top right!
No there is no point
Without further ado, I’m going to continue streaming this, at least until my wife yells at me to go to sleep.
