The Super Mario Bros. Movie has now earned enough at the box office to make it the biggest game movie in history.

The new milestone includes both domestic sales and new global markets, totaling $260.3 million and $248.4 million (via Variety), respectively. Initial sales put the movie on track to smash all kinds of records.


The new worldwide sales total brings sales over $500 million, making it the biggest video game movie to date. The film is also now the second-biggest animated film ever, topping Demon Slayer: Mugen Train ($494 million) but coming in behind Minions: The Rise of Gru ($942.5 million).

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is also the biggest movie of 2023 so far, topping Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and John Wick: Chapter 4.
