Nintendo’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie keeps raking in sales at the box office, so much so the film is expected to break $1 billion in sales.

While the film hasn’t even released in its home country of Japan yet, its second weekend brought in another whopping $92.5 million (via Deadline) this past weekend, its second weekend in western theaters.

Now The Super Mario Bros. Movie is sitting at over $700 million globally, a stone’s throw from the coveted $1 billion mark that usually only the biggest franchises and IPs ever reach.

Initial sales had the movie breaking $377 million in its opening week and weekend, a record for animated films. Subsequent sales had the movie break $500 million globally, making it the biggest film of 2023 thus far.
