The Lord of the Rings trilogy returning to theaters with 4K extended editions

The Lord of the Rings trilogy

Warner Bros. and Fathom Events have announced they’re bringing The Lord of the Rings trilogy of films back to theaters both in 4K and their extended editions.

The new theatrical re-release event will see the original classic film trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson, shown in 4K and their extended cuts for the first time in theaters since their original premiere 20+ years ago.

The new screenings will kick off in June and span three days total, with each day a single slot for each film so you don’t have to marathon 10+ hours of film in one sitting. Here’s the schedule:

  • June 8th – The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
  • June 9th – The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
  • June 10th – The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Tickets for the exciting new screening are already up for sale via Fathom Events and fans of the franchise will find showings in their local AMC, Cinemark, and Regal chains nationwide (among others).

Warner Bros. is going all out with new Lord of the Rings content like the second season for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which is expected later this year.

There’s also their animated film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, which is releasing on December 13th and is set 250 years before the events of The Lord of the Rings and tells the story of legendary Rohan King Helm Hammerhand.
